Ambassadors for London
Your first step to becoming a tourist guide
Working alongside Newham London the host borough for the London 2012 Olympic Games Talk-Tourism has developed a Foundation Course to train Newham Tourism Ambassadors.
The two-week course is for Newham residents and volunteers.
It is designed to help the local community to gain the skills needed to promote Newham London at a time when massive investment is transforming the area, in preparation for the Olympics and Paralympics in 2012.
Following the first graduation ceremony, several other East London boroughs have expressed interest in the scheme and it is likely to be extended to other areas in time to take advantage of increased visitor numbers leading up to 2012. According to the London 2012 website, (www.london2012.co.uk) more than 7.7 million people are expected to visit the Olympic Games, with a further 1.5million for the Paralympics.
If you are proud of the area you live in, why not use your local knowledge to tell some of the many millions of visitors about its rich history?
The two-week course includes:
- Tips on presentation skills by members the Institute of Tour Guiding and the historic Theatre Royal Stratford East.
- Visits to local points of interest including the Olympic Park Site.
- Walks by local experienced guides
- Talks by experts on the history, infrastructure and regeneration plans for the Borough
- Working as a team and individually to create your own visitor information lecture
